Highlights from May 28th DNJ article by Scott Broden
Murfreesboro City Manager Craig Tindall recommended the property tax rate climb by 39% to $1.3194 per $100 of assessed value to balance the city’s main $188.8 million government budget for the next fiscal year that starts July 1.
A $260,000 home is the median for Rutherford County Property Assessor appraisals. A home of that value had a property tax bill of $617 for the current Murfreesboro rate of $0.9494, in addition to a $5 per can monthly fee for trash hauling services.
The new total property tax bill could rise by over $240 to nearly $858 while trash fees could increase by another $60 annually for a new total of $120 if the council approves the new revenue plans.
